Performance Levels

With the new standard 13849 kicking in to replace 954, everything is about achieving required Performance Levels. I am using the free Sistema software, and thoroughly confused as to how ASI Safety at Work fits in. Some manufacturers say that the use of ASI SAW means that all components are above and beyond PLe and therfore the very use of ASI SAW makes your system comply . . . I think not!
Where can I find a library of MTTFd and such for ASI components, as getting these required numbers together is like pulling teeth!!!

ASi Safety in Robot Cells

We are using 2 ASi safety Monitors to control the one Robot Cell, as there are more than 31 safety slaves. The output OSSD’s of each safety monitor are wired in series so that if either is activated it drops out the main contactor for the whole cell. Both safety monitors edm (external device monitoring)input are wired from the same contactors.
The problem arises when one safety monitor trips the edm is activated on both safety monitors causing a critical error on the safety monitor that has not tripped. How is this problem best addressed? The cell is to be CAT 4 rated.

ASI safety system fails EMI susceptibility tests.

We are currently performing EMC susceptibility tests on our machine, which is equipped with an ASI safety at work safety system.

The system trips when a 1.5Kv spike is fed into the 3-phase mains input. Although failsafe and easily reset I wish to minimise the possibility of nuisance trips of the safety system.

Are there any guidelines regarding filtering the power supplies and/or application of ferrites to the ASI cable?

The system is Pepperl and Fuchs based. It has shown to be very robust during normal machine operation. Should I be worried about it tripping at 1.5KV? The machine is going to Holland so there ought not to be any dirty mains issues.

A/B Network Safety

I would like to use use AS-I safety modules in networks with more than the 31 slaves.

Will AS-I safety work on A/B networks with up to 62 slaves ?

Safety “Teach” Failure on Siemens

Hello,

I am trying to commission a Safety Monitor with 3 safety slaves and 2 standard slaves. The Safety Monitor is Siemens 3RK1105-1BE04-2CA0. The ASi Master is Siemens DP/ASi Link 6GK1-415-2BA10. The Safety slaves are Siemens 3RK1205-0BQ00-0AA3. The Asi Master indicates no problems with any slave addresses. The ASIMON software indicates all slave addresses are present. The configuration check outs and downloads OK. All of the safety devices are present and their circuits are closed. All of the safety signals are present. But the “Teach” function fails on all but one slave address. If I rearrange the slaves and readdress them, the problem follows the physical slave devices. These are brand new components.

Could the slave devices be defective? What more can I do to resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance,

ASi & ATEX Zones

I am looking at one of the specifications asking us to implement Asi bus in Hazardous area, where filed mounted ON-OFF valves are in ZONE 1,Group IIA/IIB). As Asi bus carries power & the valves are used for monitoring & control of process,I am not sure 1)whether Asi bus system is suitable for ZONE 1,Group IIA/IIB for monitoring & control of ON-OFF Valve that are frequently operated 2)

If suitable, how to make it suitable & what specific components are to be chosen. I mean if we locate Asi Master/Slaves in this area, what additional features are to be specified/considered while designing to conform to ZONE 1,Group IIA/IIB
